Here Comes Al Roker Productions!
Earlier this year, the Popcorn Festival was notified
by an associate producer at Al Roker Productions in New
York City who operates the Food Network cable channel
about doing a show about Orville Redenbacher, his
hometown, and the Popcorn Festival who honors popcorn
and the Popcorn King. The Food Network planned on their
show Foodography, called Titans of Taste:
Supermarket Sensations. Orville Redenbacher along
with Chef Hector Boiardi (Boy-ar-dee), and Oscar Mayer
were featured along with interviews with members of the
Popcorn Festival. The shoot occurred in March 2006 and
was shown on the Food Network channel during the week of
23 June 2006. The producer of the show was Ann Jones
from New York City. The show gave the Festival national
attention.
The shoot took place in the home of Glen and Evelyn
Brown in Brazil. Along with the Festival members, the
Redenbacher family was on hand to talk about their
father, grandfather, cousin, and great grandfather.
Being supportive of our Festival, Orville’s daughter,
Gail Redenbacher Tuminello was delighted and agreed to
gather as many of the Redenbacher family members to do
interviews with the crew. Gail has stated before how
pleased she and family were that the Popcorn Festival
“…is all about Orville, and Dad would have been so
pleased—he would have loved what they have done.”
